Es la denuncia de las políticas reaccionarias, la intransigencia, el machismo, los abusos, las guerras, la injusticia… Gente como Bob Dylan, Sam Cooke, Public Enemy, Pete Seeger, Bruce Springsteen y hasta Nick Lowe.
Este ranking no pretende ser tan exhaustivo como la lista de mejores canciones protesta de Paste Magazine, solo reivindicar que la música siempre sirvió para definir eras y contar cosas interesantes, aunque no hayamos aprendido nada.
1. «The times they’re a-changin'» (Bob Dylan). Un clásico entre las mejores canciones protesta de siempre
La etapa protesta de Bob Dylan apenas duró tres años, pero dejó decenas de composiciones asombrosas y una de las mejores canciones protesta que firmó fue «The times they’re a changin'».
Escrita en 1964, su texto sigue siendo perfectamente válido y contemporáneo. También su hermosa música. Por ejemplo, sirvió para el memorable comienzo de la película «The Watchmen«. Es una maravilla antes y ahora, una obra maestra de uno de los mejores poetas de la música. Porque los tiempos siempre están cambiando.

3. «Fight the power» (Public Enemy). Cuando el rap servía para hacer algunas de las mejores canciones protesta
Public Enemy hicieron historia con «Fight the power» y la narración de la tensión racial urbana para la película de Spike Lee «Do The Right Thing», incluida finalmente en el magnífico álbum «Fear Of A Black Planet» de 1990.
